Blaze Acord put on a show for the second straight week, propelling North Surry to a 21-6 victory over the Ashe County Huskies.

The defenses set the tone early on for both squads, not allowing any big scoring threats in the first quarter of action.

North Surry found pay-dirt with 5:48 left in the second quarter. Acord powered into the end zone from 12 yards out for his first score of the day. Carlos Flores booted the extra point.

With the score sitting at 7-0, Ashe battled back on the next drive. With 2:27 left in the first half ,Eli Gambill rolled out and found tight end Cullen Ashley near the sideline for an 11-yard TD grab. Ashley caught the ball short of the goal line, but dove into the end zone through a pair of Greyhound defenders. On the extra point attempt, Jordan Dehart blocked the tying kick. The score would remain 7-6 going to the halftime break.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, it was all North Surry in the second half, doing most of its damage with the ground game.

Acord scampered into the end zone from 20 yards out with 8:42 left in the third quarter. Flores nailed the extra point, making it 14-6.

The standout tailback scored one more TD before all was said and done as he powered through the Ashe defense from 12 yards out. Flores hit his third extra point of the night, putting the final touches on a 21-6 Greyhound win.

Ashe was limited offensively to just 102 total yards. Jonathan Cox had 42 rushing yards on 13 carries. Gambill ran for 19 yards on 15 carries.

In the passing game, Gambill completed three of his eight passes for 47 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Jacob Blevins had two catches for 36 yards and Ashley finished with the one touchdown catch for 11 yards.

Acord was the workhorse again for the Greyhounds, carrying the ball 35 times for 247 yards and three touchdowns. This gave the tailback 551 yards and seven touchdowns in his last two games.

Defensively, Michael Elliott had a big day with 13 tackles. Carson Knight and Parker Dunne each added six tackles and Cox chipped in with five takedowns. Cox also added two interceptions in the secondary. Matthew Hamilton had two tackles and an interception from his defensive back position. Dominic Maxwell finished with four tackles, Drew Baldwin added four, Devante Mountain had three tackles and Justin Scarborough finished with three takedowns.

North Surry remained undefeated with its third win of the early season. Ashe County fell to 1-2 overall.

Conference play begins for the Huskies this week with Ashe hosting Elkin on Friday. North Surry has this week off.
