Tuesday afternoon, a Jefferson woman slid off the road during a heavy afternoon thunderstorm and wound up in a creek on US 221N.
Erin Kincaid was traveling north at approximately 2:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on US 221N/NC 16N when she hydroplaned, lost control of the Toyota Tercel she was driving, and slid into a creek on the right side of the road. The vehicle eventually came to rest on its passenger side.
“She was traveling north and hydroplaned during that heavy thunderstorm,” said North Carolina State Trooper Kevin Aldridge. “She ran off the right side of the road and overturned down the embankment.”
Kincaid was originally said to be pinned in the vehicle, according to Ashe County Communications, but Aldridge said she simply could not free herself from the car because of the way it landed.
“She wasn’t actually pinned in, but she did need some help getting out because of the way the car was turned,” said Aldridge.
Kincaid was not injured in the accident according to Aldridge.
In addition to the Highway Patrol, the Jefferson Police Department and the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department were also on scene.
