"A Coke, a tune, a few minutes with a friend," is an original work by James "Dawg" Woods recently commissioned by the Coca-Cola Company.

Lansing artist James “Dawg” Woods has painted an original work commissioned by The Coca-Cola Company which will adorn the walls of their corporate offices in Atlanta.

Woods said he was recently approached about the commission by an acquaintance who works in corporate communications at Coca-Cola. “I know a fella who plays music with us at Phipps Store,” he said, “and he saw my stuff hanging up, and went kinda nuts over it.”

Wood’s fellow musician, who plays clawhammer banjo, has his office next door to the Coca-Cola archives, he said, and took some of Wood’s work back to Atlanta with him. “I got an email from him the next week,” he said.

A “Dawg” original was thus purchased by Coca-Cola, and will be presented to the company’s chief marketing officer, said Woods.

Entitled “A Coke, a tune, a few minutes with a friend,” the painting depicts “An old-timey small country store on opening day of bear season,” he said. Two musicians, representing Woods and his friend, sit on the front porch playing fiddle and banjo beneath a large Coca-Cola signboard.
