Brittany Moose dropped in 26 points to help Forbush upset the fourth-seeded Lady Huskies, 53-37.
The Falcons closed the game with 17 fourth-quarter points to advance to the semifinals of the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament.
“Forbush is a very hard matchup for us defensively,” said head coach Laura Foster.
The Falcons started the game on a 9-3 run with seven points from Moose and a basket from Shannon Holden. Ashe was able to find some offense with three-pointers from Ashton Lee and Victoria Reed, as well as baskets inside from Emily Flanagan and Paige Spell. Forbush held a 15-11 lead after the first.
In the second quarter, defense ruled the court as both teams combined for just 10 points. Morgan Hudler hit a three-pointer and Lee added a layup to score Ashe’s five points.
Trailing by four at halftime, Ashe fell behind a bit more after the third quarter. Moose scored 10 of her 26 in the third to extend the Falcon advantage to 36-29 after three quarters.
The Lady Huskies failed to hit a shot from the field in the fourth quarter, getting all eight of its points from the free throw line. Forbush capitalized on Ashe’s shooting struggles and pulled away for the victory.
Ashe saw its record fall to an even .500 on the season at 12-12.
After Moose’s 26 points, the next highest Falcon scorer was Savannah Hill with 10 points. Paris Trivette scored eight and Maddi Marsch chipped in six points.
Spell ended the game with eight points to lead all Lady Husky players. Senior Chelsea Reavis had seven points and three rebounds, Reed finished with five points and Flanagan scored five points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Lee chipped in five points, Hallie Brown had four and Hudler had three points.
Up next for the Lady Huskies will be the 2A state tournament.
“We are really hoping to get a home game for the playoffs on Monday, but we are expecting to be on the road,” said Coach Foster.
Tournament brackets will be released Saturday afternoon and Ashe will be the number two seed from the MVAC, unless Forbush wins the conference tournament. If that happens, Ashe will drop to the number three seed and have no chance at a home game.
