Pitching standout Cameron Guyton was Ashe County’s lone selection to the 2013 Mountain Valley Athletic Conference All-Conference team.

Guyton finished the year with a 4-5 record but led the team with 78 strikeouts and also had a team –best 3.09 ERA. Guyton pitched 63.1 innings this season as the team’s top starting pitcher.

Ashe also had two players named as all-conference honorable mention performers. Senior catcher Carson Knight and junior infielder Alex Laws were chosen to represent the Huskies on that list.

Knight led the Huskies with a .304 batting average and was second on the team with a .450 on-base percentage. The senior led Ashe in RBI’s with 15 and tied for the team lead with 14 hits.

Laws batted .286 on the year with a .407 OBP and tied for the team lead with 14 hits. Laws led all Ashe players with 14 runs scored and was second on the team with eight stolen bases.

Wilkes Central pitcher Austin Staley was named MVAC Player of the Year. Staley has committed to play baseball at NC State.

Staley’s coach Terry Johnson was named MVAC Coach of the Year.
