The Lady Husky soccer team handed Starmount its second loss in as many games, beating the Rams 9-0.

Ashe bounced back from its 5-0 defeat at Forbush to start the season, bringing the team’s record to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Aspen Domske had a huge day offensively with four goals and an assist in the victory. Beckah Bowers added two goals, Tyler Eller had one goal, Chrissy Simmons scored once and Valerie Keys scored a goal and had an assist as well. Natalie Harless and Mac Church each chipped in an assist.

Ashe will have three matches this week, including the team’s first home match of the year. Ashe will travel to East Wilkes on Tuesday, host North Surry on Wednesday and travel to Alleghany on Friday.

Softball

On the diamond, the softball team also picked up their first win of the season, hanging on for a 1-0 victory over Starmount.

Last week, Ashe lost a close one to Wilkes Central, but got a very strong pitching performance from freshman Brianna McCoy. She pitched equally well at Starmount, allowing just two hits in seven innings with nine strikeouts. The Rams countered with Olivia Greene on the mound who also went all seven innings and gave up four hits and one run with nine strikeouts.

Ashe is now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the MVAC. The Lady Huskies will travel to East Wilkes on Tuesday and Alleghany on Friday.

"Unfair competition" in N.C. car market

An N.C. Senate bill would prohibit direct marketing to N.C. motorists by Tesla and companies like it. Is this a sound policy?
