Paige Spell and Jacob Blevins each set new school records as both track teams took first place at the home non-conference meet on Tuesday.
The women’s track squad scored 94 points, well ahead of second place Grayson County who had 29.
On the men’s side, Ashe won easily as well with 113 points. Grayson County was second with 28 points and Oak Hill finished third with one point.
Spell set the new school record in the high jump with a leap of five feet, two inches.
For Blevins, his new school record came in the long jump where his jump measured in at 20 feet, 11.5 inches.
Overall, Ashe had a first place finish in nearly every event.
Maize Chapman took first in the women’s pole vault, clearing the bar set at six feet, six inches. R.J. Burke won the pole vault on the men’s side, clearing eight feet, six inches.
The Huskies swept the top three finishing spots in the men’s high jump. Tyler Church, Hunter Argetsinger and Sam Hudler each saw their jump scored at four feet, 10 inches.
In the shot put, Madison Little won the event with a toss of 29 feet, two inches. Makayla Hartzog finished fourth with a throw just over 21 feet. Little also won the discus with a throw of 101 feet, a full 31 feet ahead of her teammate and second place finisher, Katie Orr.
Ashe took the top four scoring spots in the men’s shot put. Brandon Wingler, Dominic Maxwell, Jake Woods and Parker Dunne rounded out the top four. In the discus event, Wingler was second, Dunne finished third and Maxwell was fourth.
Aspen Domske grabbed first in the women’s long jump with a leap of 15 feet, six inches. Spell, Hailey Richardson and Erin Bingham finished out the top four. Domske was also the top finisher in the triple jump which measured in at 28 feet, five inches.
Austin Bennett won the men’s triple jump with an impressive leap of 38 feet, 10 inches, nearly three feet ahead of second place John Bilbrey of Grayson.
Ashe’s domination carried over to the track events.
Bingham captured first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.59 seconds. Spell came in second in 17.43 seconds. Bingham was also the top finisher in the 300 hurdles, crossing the line in 52.9 seconds.
Blevins blistered the competition in the 110-hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.90 seconds, well ahead of Church who grabbed second place in 20.03 seconds. In the 300 hurdles, Zach Outen edged Blevins in the event with a finishing time of 44.59 seconds.
Ashe had all five of the top finishers in the women’s 100-meter dash. Amber Hare was first in 13.3 seconds followed by Richardson (13.6 seconds), Taylor Kripps (14.7 seconds), Trinity Bost (14.8 seconds) and Morgan Girtman (16 seconds).
Not to be outdone, the men grabbed the top six spots in the same event. Blevins was first in 11.3 seconds, Bennett came in second in 11.5 seconds while Outen and Richard Isaacs both finished in 11.6 seconds. Argetsinger crossed the line in 12.1 seconds and Ronald Goodlanger was sixth in 12.6 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, Burke finished second for the men in 58.6 seconds. Ashe teammate Landon Bush was second in 61.4 seconds.
In the first long distance event, Victoria Reed finished first in the women’s mile run with a time of 6:06. Garreth Berry and Helmer Alvarez took second and third in the men’s mile.
Berry and Sophie Wolfe were the winners in the two-mile event. Berry won the men’s race in 12:41 while Wolfe won the women’s event in 16:50.
The final event was the 200-meter dash, which was yet another win for both teams. Hare won the women’s race in 28.3 seconds, just ahead Richardson (28.8), Chapman (31.4) and Girtman (35.1). Bennett grabbed first for the men in 23.6 seconds. Isaacs, Bush, Burke and Church rounded out the top five.
Up next, the track team is scheduled to be at home again on Wednesday.
