The Todd Ruritan Club continued to make a positive impact in its community over the holiday season.
On Friday Dec. 7, Ms. Ruby Trivette lit the Todd Community Christmas Tree. Each light on the Christmas Tree represents a $5 donation to the Ruby A. Trivette Scholarship Fund.
This year, thanks to all the folks that donated, the Light Up A Life fundraiser generated about $1,200 to help with the scholarships for students that will be going to college this fall.
Also during the evening of events, members in the Todd community helped Ms. Ruby celebrate her 98th birthday with a cake and a bouquet of roses.
Since the beginning of the “Light up a Life” fundraiser in 1999, the Todd Ruritan has donated over $24,000 to students going on to college.

The Todd Ruritan served the area in other ways as well.
Every Christmas, the Todd Ruritan helps a family or families make Christmas a little better for parents and children alike.
This year, the Todd Ruritan helped the Hick Family, who live in the Meat Camp area, pick out around $500 of clothes and toys for their children.
Barry Stevens, the president of the Todd Ruritan Club, said the family was very thankful for the help.
Actions like these enabled the Todd Ruritan to receive a $250 award for community service at the Western N.C. Honors program on Nov. 17.
The Todd Ruritan meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the South Fork Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome to visit enjoy the food prepared by the group’s members.
