The Lady Husky soccer team continued its winning ways with a pair of victories last week.
On Wednesday, Ashe traveled to East Wilkes and beat the Cardinals by a 6-0 score. Mac Church picked up a hat trick to lead Ashe with three goals. Aspen Domske, Olivia Brettschneider and Bekah Bowers each added goals as well. Bridgette Wilson, Amanda Osborne and Valerie Keys each picked up assists on scoring goals.
Defensively, Ashe got stellar goaltending from Chrissy Simmons and Virginia Johnson to preserve the second consecutive shutout.
The ladies wrapped up last week with another road match at Alleghany. Ashe came away with another big win, 9-1 over the home team.
Domske had her second four-goal game of the season. Keys added two goals, Brettschneider, Church and Natalie Harless each scored one. Bowers had a big day passing with four assists.
Ashe has now won three games in a row after losing a tough season opener at Forbush with very little practice time and preparation for the match.
The Lady Huskies will take the field three times this week, including the first home match of the season. Ashe will travel to Elkin on Tuesday, Alexander Central on Wednesday and then host North Wilkes on Friday.
Softball
Ashe County ran into trouble early on at East Wilkes and was never able to recover. The Cardinals took a 10-0 victory over the visiting Ashe squad.
East Wilkes pitcher Kennedy Lester was nearly untouchable on the mound. She allowed just one Ashe hit through five innings with seven strikeouts to get the win.
Sloan Elliott reached base twice, once on an error and once after being hit by a pitch. Both times, however, the Lady Huskies were unable to get any offensive attack started.
The Lady Huskies will look to get back into the win column next week with a pair of games. Ashe will travel to Elkin on Tuesday before playing its first home game of the season on Friday against North Wilkes.
