The men’s soccer team claimed its third victory in as many days, beating Oak Hill Academy 6-1 on Wednesday.
Ashe had beaten North Wilkes and Starmount in blow out fashion on Monday and Tuesday, but had to work a little harder to get this win against its non-conference foe.
Frank Ledezma scored a goal just four minutes in to put Ashe ahead, 1-0.
Oak Hill tied things up in the 14th minute with a shot that scooted by a diving Braxton Treadway.
Scoring chances were limited for both sides late in the first half. Cesar Ruiz took a shot that sailed high of the net in the 23rd minute, then had a shot go wide left of the goal just one minute later. The score would remain knotted at 1-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The Huskies came out strong once again in the second half, getting another goal from Ledezma in the 44th minute to put Ashe back in front. Just four minutes later, Ruiz scored on a perfect pass from Ledezma to extend the advantage.
In the 50th minute, the fourth Ashe goal came from Ledezma as he capped off the hat trick, giving Ashe three hat tricks in three days, and a 4-1 lead in this game.
The final two Husky scores of the night came in the 73rd and 80th minute. Senior Lucas Zeller powered a shot by the Oak Hill keeper, then Miguel Ramos darted through the defense and pushed an easy shot into the net for the final score.
This win marked the ninth consecutive victory, moving Ashe to 9-1 overall.
Ashe will face its toughest opponent since Watauga when the squad travels to Forbush this Thursday. Both teams are currently tied for the top spot in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
