The 7th Annual Ola Belle Reed Homecoming Festival featuring old time, bluegrass, and Americana music, is being held at the Lansing Creeper Trail Park through Sunday. Festival hours are 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11; and 1 p.m. until? on Sunday, Aug. 12. Schedule as follows: Saturday, Aug. 11 11:30 a.m. Cindy Baucom and Chris Brooks Noon: The Sheets Family Band 1 p.m. The Great Smoky Mountain Bluegrass Band 2 p.m. Wayne Henderson and Charles Welch with a tribute to Doc Watson 3 p.m. Big Country Bluegrass Band 4 p.m. Elkville String Band with Wayne Henderson 5:15 p.m. Jason Harrod Band 6:30 p.m. Time Sawyer 7:45 p.m. Open jam with Jason Harrod Workshops will be held on Saturday: 12:30 p.m. Judy Marti with clawhammer banjo; 1:30 p.m. The Sheets Family Band with old time harmony; 2:30 p.m. Jason Harrod with songwriting and guitar; and 3:30 p.m. The Sheets Family Band with mountain dance. Pickers, jammers and music lovers are encouraged to picnic and play on Sunday under the purple tent beginning at 1 p.m. Hosted by Phipps Store Pickers. Bring your instruments and join in. Lansing Creeper Trail Park is located behind the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department and will offer much needed shade for festival guests, swings for children, walking trail, primitive tent camping, Big Horse Creek for wading, and pedestrian access to downtown Lansing shopping and eating. Lansing Volunteer Fire Department will be selling barbeque chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and more, and there will be craft vendors. Ashe County native Cindy Baucom will serve as emcee for the festival. Cindy's "Knee-Deep in Bluegrass" is broadcast in almost 100 markets each week. Earlier this year she was inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame. Suggested donation for admission to the festival is $5 on Saturday. The festival is a fundraiser for Greater Lansing Area Development 501 (c) 3 non-profit, whose projects include Lansing Tech Community Learning Center, Lansing Creeper Trail Park, and the promotions of the Greater Lansing Area.
