The regular season came to a close on Friday for the Lady Huskies with a tough loss on Senior Night.

Ashe had two seniors on this year’s squad. Chelsea Reavis and Taylor Price were honored as part of the Senior Night activities, playing their final regular season home game.

Morgan Hudler got off to a good start for the Lady Huskies in the first quarter. She scored seven of the team’s 11 points while Price and Emily Flanagan scored two points each to match West Wilkes’ first period scoring.

The game remained close at the half with Ashe holding a 25-24 advantage. Flanagan scored six in the second quarter and Paige Spell got on track with a pair of baskets.

It was all West Wilkes in the second half, however, as the Lady Blackhawks outscored Ashe 39-15 in the final two quarters of play to capture a 63-40 victory.

Spell was the leading scorer with 12 points. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds and collected a pair of steals. Hudler had 10 points and five rebounds, Flanagan finished with eight points and four rebounds while Price had her best game of the season with seven points and four boards. Victoria Reed scored two points and Ashton Lee had two as well.

Leah Bishop had a huge game for West with 25 points and was a perfect 7-7 at the charity stripe. Lakyn Rutledge chipped in 13 and Erin Dancy scored 11.

The Lady Huskies finished the regular season at 12-11 overall and 10-6 in the MVAC.

“This team has exceeded expectations. We finished in seventh place last season, lost four starters due to graduation, 80-percent of our offense and 90-percent of our rebounding,” said head coach Laura Foster. “This year’s team consisted of two seniors, one junior, five sophomores and one freshman, and only three of those players had significant playing time from last year’s team. We have a promising next couple of years.”

Ashe, who earned the fourth overall seed, will open the MVAC Conference Tournament at home on Tuesday against Forbush. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of top seed North Wilkes and eighth-seeded Elkin on Wednesday at East Wilkes. That game will start at 6:30 p.m.

The bottom half of the bracket features second seed West Wilkes hosting seventh seed Starmount and third place Wilkes Central hosting sixth place East Wilkes.
