The Lady Huskies easily defeated North Forsyth, then won a hard-fought battle over Hibriten to capture the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic championship.
It was the first time Ashe had won the tournament since the 2006-2007 season.
Ashe 49, North Forsyth 20
In the first round game on Thursday, Ashe took care of business against the North Forsyth Lady Vikings, cruising to a 29-point win.
Morgan Hudler had a great game from the point guard position. The sophomore scored 12 points, collected four steals, grabbed three rebounds and added two assists.
Paige Spell continued her impressive play with 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists. Her five steals led all Lady Husky players.
Several other players also had good performances in the first round matchup. Hallie Brown had an impressive all-around game with six points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Emily Flanagan chipped in six points and pulled down four rebounds. Alexis Parks finished with four points and three rebounds, Ashton Lee had three points and three rebounds, Abby Lopp had two points and led all players with seven rebounds, Taylor Price added two points and Chelsea Reavis hit a pair of free throws.
Ashe 56, Hibriten 53
The championship game featured a close game between Ashe and Hibriten. The Lady Panthers reached the championship game after defeating Charlotte Catholic in the first round.
Hudler had another huge game for Ashe, leading the way with 20 points. She also handed out a game-high six assists and grabbed three rebounds to go along with three steals.
Flanagan had a big double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, Spell finished with eight points and six boards, Reavis had eight points and three steals, and Victoria Reed had four points, three assists and three steals. Brown finished with two points and five rebounds while Parks rounded out the Ashe scoring with a pair of free throws.
Ashe improved its record to 5-5 overall.
The team is set to return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 2 in a rescheduled game against Alleghany.
