The regular season finale was a rough one for Ashe County.
West Wilkes scored seven runs in the third inning to blow open a close game on the way to a 12-1 victory.
Will Shepherd belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and Zach Staley had an RBI single to put the Blackhawks ahead 3-0 off of Ashe starter Jamie Weaver.
In the third, John Bauguess started the scoring with a two-run single and Shepherd capped off the scoring with this second homer of the night, another two-run blast that extended the lead to 10-0.
Ashe got its lone run in the bottom of the third when Carson Knight smacked an RBI single to left field that scored Matthew Hamilton from third base.
West got two more runs in the fourth inning off of a single to center by Andrew Ortiz.
The Huskies were kept in check the final two innings of play as the game ended in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Ashe finished the regular season at 5-11 overall and 5-11 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Softball
Ashe County’s softball team met a similar fate against West Wilkes on Monday night.
The Lady Blackhawks plated 12 runs and held Ashe County scoreless in the final game of the regular season.
Ashe finished up the year with a record of 6-11 overall and 6-10 in the MVAC.
