Both the men’s and women’s track teams finished in the top three last Thursday at Bunker Hill with the women taking a second place finish and the men grabbing third place.

Ashe started things off with good performances in several field events. Madison Little placed third in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, four inches and second in the discus with a toss of 98 feet, nine inches.

In the long jump, senior Aspen Domske took second place with a leap of 15 feet, four inches, just two inches behind first place Olivia McGee of West Wilkes. Paige Spell finished in second place in the high jump, clearing four feet, 10 inches.

Ashe swept the top two finishing positions in the 100-meter hurdles. Erin Bingham won the event in 16.4 seconds while Spell finished second in 17.64 seconds.

The ladies did well in other running events besides the hurdles. Victoria Reed captured first place in the mile run with a time of 5:58, three seconds in front of Bandy’s Ashley Hughes in second place. Ashe runner Mac Church was fourth in the event with a time of 6:16.

Bingham continued her success in hurdles with a first place finish in the 300, crossing the finish line in 52 seconds.

For the men, Ashe had two people place in the top eight in the shot put. Dominic Maxwell was fifth with a toss of 37 feet, 9.5 inches and Brandon Wingler was eighth with a throw of 36 feet, 10.5 inches.

The team did even better in the discus with three of the top seven finishers. Wingler was second behind West Wilkes thrower Robert Dancy. Wingler’s throw measured in at 115 feet, eight inches. Maxwell was third at 102 feet, three inches and Mitchell Brown was seventh, tossing the discus 92 feet, six inches.

Jacob Blevins finished second in the long jump, Hunter Argetsinger was 10th, and Austin Bennett grabbed third in the triple jump.

Blevins performed equally well in the 110 hurdles with a second place finish, crossing the line in 16.77 seconds.

In other running events, Bennett took fifth in the 200-meter dash in 24.32 seconds, Haden Haigaman took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 57.64 seconds and R.J. Burke finished fifth in the 800-meter run with time of 2:17.

In the two-miler, Andrew Tedder was the top finisher out of 24 runners, crossing the line at 11:05. Ashe teammate Gareth Berry was fourth, just 10 seconds behind Tedder.

Overall, West Wilkes had the highest totals in both the men’s and women’s team scores.
