Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson is planning on expanding its facility and is also celebrating an excellent state survey.
“We think the renovations will give us a better opportunity to serve the community, and we are looking forward to that,” said Scott Davis, executive director of Margate Health & Rehab Center.
“We have a great facility, but we feel like it’s time for an update,” said Davis.
Margate Health & Rehab Center will be adding a new wing with 60 new beds. Construction will begin soon.
This additional wing will also create enough space to allow for more private rooms throughout the rest of the facility.
Davis said Margate Health & Rehab Center will also be renovating the inside of the building. This will include acquiring new furniture and new beds.
According to Davis, Margate is attempting to finish these renovations by the end of 2013. While Davis isn’t sure if the new wing can be completed by then, he is confident that the inside renovations will be completed in that time frame.
According to Davis, the new wing is in response to an increase in the number of people admitted. Davis said this increase is due, in small part, to the closing of Segraves Care Center at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Renovating Margate’s facility isn’t the only cause for celebration among Margate’s staff.
Recently, Margate Health & Rehab Center went through their annual state survey process. Margate received the highest score they have ever attained, passing with “flying colors,” according to a press release sent out.
“To my knowledge, this is the best survey Margate’s ever had,” said Davis.
According to Davis, Margate Health & Rehab Center only had two minor deficiencies in their survey. “To put that in perspective, the national average is seven and eight deficiencies,” said Davis.
Davis said Margate had six deficiencies in last year’s survey, which is a sign that Margate has made strides since last year.
In honor of this wonderful survey, Davis had a cookout for all the staff. Davis did the cooking and personally thanked the dedicated and hard-working employees of Margate Health & Rehab Center.
