A Lansing man escaped serious injury Friday morning when a tractor he was operating overturned on Piney Creek Road.
When emergency personnel arrived on Piney Creek Road, they found the injured man trapped underneath the tractor, with his ankle pinned by the piece of heavy machinery.
According to first responders, the tractor’s roll bar prevented the tractor from rolling on top of the man’s body. An eyewitness on the scene estimated that the accident took place between 9:30 and 9:40 a.m., leaving him pinned by his ankle for several minutes.
Lansing Fire Rescue and the Ashe County Rescue Squad arrived on the scene at approximately 10 a.m. Both groups checked the man’s status and eventually pulled him from the wreckage with help from a small bulldozer.
After the operator was retrieved from the wreckage, EMS officials said the man injured his wrist and ankle, but didn’t sustain any other injuries.
“He was fortunate his injuries weren’t more serious,” said an EMS official.
An ambulance from Blue Ridge Medical Transport arrived shortly before the man was freed from the tractor and transported the man to Watauga Medical Center, leaving the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m.
