The Ashe County Home Builders Association held its annual Christmas party Friday, Dec. 7, at Boondocks Brewing in West Jefferson.
Officers for the upcoming 2013 year were installed and a commemorative pin was giving to outgoing President Marc Waddell.
The 2013 board was sworn in and consists of president Tim Russell, past president Marc Waddell, and board members Joel Robinson, Mickey Pruitt, Scott Jordan, Trey Young, Myron Howell, Matt Rumfelt, and Darrell Hamilton.
The ACHBA also announced the resignation of long time executive officer Kelley St. Germain.
According to a press release sent by tyhe board, “St. Germain was instrumental in the creation of the Ashe County HBA, but with the steady growth of his business, St. Germain Media Services, he felt that he no longer had the time needed to run both organizations.”
“While we are extremely happy for Kelley’s success, we are very sorry to see him leave. He has been a faithful servant and we cannot thank him enough for everything that he has done for our organization,” said the Board Of Directors.
The Board also announced the hiring of a new executive officer, Tammie Pruitt-Coffey. Coffee joins the organization with a wealth of experience in public relations, having previously worked in retail and in the private sector across the state.
An Ashe County native, Coffey returned home in 2008, and quickly became involved in the ACHBA by attending meetings, and volunteering for various fundraising events.
Coffey said she is “very excited to have this position, and is looking forward to promoting the building industry in Ashe County. It is a vital part of our county economics, and we must have a vision going forward in order for our builders and associates to survive.”
The Ashe County Home Builders Association was organized to help builders and others involved in the construction industry to solve problems and build relationships.
They are an active group of men and women representing all aspects of the construction industry in Ashe County, North Carolina and beyond. They are actively involved in the community, supporting the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce, Ashe County High School, Ashe Habitat for Humanity and many more nonprofit organizations.
“They look forward to 2013 with a renewed focus on getting their members back to work at what they do best,” said the HBA’s release.
According to the release, “The National Association of Home Builders estimates that for every new single-family home built, three new jobs are created. Jobs are generated in the industries where lumber, concrete, lighting fixtures, heating and cooling equipment, and other products that go into a home are produced.”
More jobs are created when real estate agents, lawyers and brokers provide services to home builders and home buyers. About half of the three jobs created by building an average single-family home are in the construction industry.
“It is a fact that housing equals jobs…..and this is especially true here in Ashe County,” said the release.
