For the first time in several matches, the Lady Husky tennis team had its full complement of starters back, and took care of business against Forbush, winning 9-0.
Top seeded Anna Wooten remained undefeated in conference singles matches with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Deanna Wilkins.
Second seeded Haley Maloney had no problem taking down Lauren Hardison. Maloney captured the first set 6-1, then finished off her opponent in the second set with a 6-2 win.
Kasey Curcio returned from injury and was a 6-4, 6-2 winner against third seeded Carmen Wilkins.
Maggie Witherspoon was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against fellow fourth seed Charly McCormick and Mary-Austin Tugman earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Katrina Staley.
In the final singles match, Hallie Brown took a 6-2, 6-2 win against Charlie Miller.
With the team victory already in hand, Ashe still played hard and took all three of the doubles matches. Wooten and Maloney were 8-3 winners over D. Wilkins and Hardison. Curcio and Tugman took an 8-5 win against the duo of C. Wilkins and McCormick, and the tandem of Witherspoon and Brown wrapped up the match with an 8-4 win over Staley and Miller.
“I am very proud of this team. In spite of injuries, the team has a conference record of 8-3, which reflects heart and passion to give their best,” said head coach Larry Dix.
Up next, Ashe faces a very tough test in conference leading East Wilkes.
“We face undefeated East Wilkes on Tuesday, so the team will have to be ready and play with what the team hears me refer to as ‘fire in the belly,’” added Coach Dix.
