Ashe traveled to Avery County for a non-conference battle against the Vikings with both varsity teams falling on the road.
Lady Vikings 76, Ashe 45
In the varsity women’s game, Avery took control early on and picked up its second win over Ashe this season.
Offensively, Paige Spell was the high scorer with 13 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Hudler added seven points and three steals, and Ashton Lee returned to the court with six points and four rebounds.
Victoria Reed added eight, Chelsea Reavis had four points, Emily Flanagan had four points and eight rebounds, Abby Lopp finished with two and Alexis Parks hit a free throw.
The Lady Huskies are currently 3-5 on the season and will get back into conference play on Friday night at Alleghany before the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic next week at home. Ashe is 3-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
Vikings 49, Huskies 41
Things were closer in the men’s game, but Avery pulled out the victory over the visiting Huskies.
Ashe was led by Johnathan Cox, who was the lone double-figure scorer with 10 points. Anderson Moore and Eli Gambill both had six points and Cullen Ashley finished with five.
Seth Sheets scored four points, as did teammate Alex Laws. Zach Lawrence chipped in three points and Anthony Federico rounded out the scoring with two points.
Ashe holds a current record of 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the MVAC.
In junior varsity action, Ashe picked up a 51-50 win in overtime. Stanton Moore had his second double-double in as many games with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Spencer led the Huskies with 13 points.
