Aspen Domske scored a pair of goals to help Ashe capture a 3-1 win over Wilkes Central in the team’s first home match of the year.
Domske’s first goal came in the 15th minute of play to put Ashe in front 1-0.
The rest of the first half was all defense on both sides with Ashe getting solid defensive play from Laura Rodriguez, Alyssa Peterson and Olivia Brettschneider in front of goalkeeper Chrissy Simmons.
Wilkes Central tied things up just four minutes into the second half with a goal from Jessie Pardue.
Ashe answered back in the 51st minute with Domske’s second of the night to go back in front by a single goal.
Domske nearly got the hat trick in the 55th minute when she got into the scoring box but saw her shot sail high of the crossbar.
The Eagles had two scoring chances in the 69th and 70th minutes that nearly tied things up. The first attempt was off a corner kick then a free kick just outside the penalty box. Both shots were stopped by Simmons.
With Central pushing up for the tying goal, Ashe was able to get behind the defense on a pass down field. Alexis Parks was wide open on the left side and fired a shot into the back of the net over the Central keeper in the 77th minute.
Ashe moved to 7-1-1 overall and 7-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
The Lady Huskies will host Forbush this Thursday as the conference schedule is now at the midway point of the season. Ashe’s only loss this season came at Forbush in the first game of the season, a 5-0 setback.
