Cameron Guyton pitched seven strong innings of three-hit baseball to help Ashe snap a four-game losing streak last Friday with a 4-0 win over East Wilkes.

Ashe jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning with a pair of runs scoring on Cardinal errors. Jonathan Barlow scored on an error by the first baseman while Joseph Lowder reached base on an error, moved to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on another error by the Cardinal second baseman.

The Huskies were able to add on two more in the sixth inning, with both runs once again scoring on errors. Barlow reached on an error to start the inning and Matthew Hamilton followed that up with a single to put two on with no outs.

Up next, Brandon Carpenter hit a grounder to third that was misplayed. Barlow scored and Hamilton advanced to third base. On the next play, Carpenter stole second base and Hamilton was able to come home after the second baseman mishandled the throw from the catcher to put Ashe up 4-0.

Guyton finished off the top of the seventh getting three quick outs to get his third victory of the season. The senior pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits with 12 strikeouts.

Ashe got five hits off of Cardinal pitching. Carson Knight was 2-2 at the plate with a walk, Alex Laws added a hit as did Lowder and Hamilton.

Alleghany 10, Ashe 1

On Tuesday, the Huskies were back on the diamond, but this time, the results were not what the team had hoped for. Austin Easter held Ashe to just one hit over seven innings and got 10 runs in support to get the victory.

The Trojans scored two in the first inning. Grant Caudill scored on a hit by Jake Hampton and Taylor Post added an RBI single.

Alleghany added three more in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. Hampton had a sacrifice fly that scored Marco Adams, Matthew Huber scored on an Ashe error, and Zachary Pauley scored on a groundout to shortstop.

The Trojans plated two more in the fifth and three more in the seventh to jump ahead 10-0.

Ashe was able to avoid the shutout and the no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Richardson walked and stole second base. Guyton drew a walk, then Richardson got to third base on a throwing error by Alleghany. Hamilton ripped an RBI single to center to bring in Richardson from third, the first and only Ashe hit of the night.

Easter struck out 13 Ashe hitters while allowing one hit and three walks.

Richardson pitched five innings and gave up seven runs with just three earned on eight hits. The junior recorded 10 strikeouts in the loss.

The Huskies are now 4-9 overall and 4-9 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

"Unfair competition" in N.C. car market

An N.C. Senate bill would prohibit direct marketing to N.C. motorists by Tesla and companies like it. Is this a sound policy?
