Cash Mob ASHE will converge in downtown Jefferson 11:30 a.m. Saturday for their third demonstration of organized consumer support of local businesses and local products.

“We were asked to ‘mob’ Jefferson this month by some of the business owners in Jefferson,” said Cash Mob ASHE organizer Nancy Shannon of Fleetwood.

Shannon said the group would meet in front of Threads of Hope and Becky’s Ladybug, the two retailers chosen for the March mob. Lunch at J&J Chop House will follow at around 12:15 p.m.

“Threads of Hope gives back so much to the community in that they use profits from the store to fund programming and housing for victims of domestic violence,” she said. “Becky’s Ladybug is a fun shop owned by Ashe County native Becky Absher.

“We are very excited,” said Becky’s Manager Allison Langdon. “This way of helping small business is neat, and we appreciate them taking their time.”

Part of the group’s mission is to encourage area restaurants to source local meat and produce. J&J Chop House has posted a four-entree local foods menu on their Facebook Page especially for Cash Mob ASHE customers. Diners can choose the Ripshin Farms Burger, McKenzie Farms Quiche, Wild Salmon Bibb Salad or Lasagna, all prepared with ingredients produced in Ashe County.

“J&J Chop house is proud and honored to support locally grown food,” said J&J co-owner Jerry Davis. “We want the thank our cash mob for all their hard work, and we plan to continue to incorporate this food into our day-to-day menu.”

Cash Mob ASHE is organized through a Facebook group at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/516875038333066/. The group is “dedicated to keeping our dollars in the hands of our neighbors rather than corporate entities,” and appreciates “handmade, homemade, and locally grown products that are abundant in Ashe County.”

"Unfair competition" in N.C. car market

An N.C. Senate bill would prohibit direct marketing to N.C. motorists by Tesla and companies like it. Is this a sound policy?
