Wrestlers win two conference matches

The Huskies got back in the win column with a pair of conference victories at home on Tuesday.

Ashe wrestled Starmount in the first match, and took control late with five straight victories to take a 46-27 victory.

Michael Elliott started the match by pinning Austin McGee in the 152-pound division.

Starmount answered back with a pinfall win for Sergio Sarinana over Joshua Hamilton in the 160-pound class.

Ashe earned wins in the 170 and 182-pound divisions. Lucas Miller was a 6-3 decision winner over Ian Fennell and William Miller made quick work of Devin Alspaugh, pinning him at 1:09.

Michael Wood got Starmount’s next win at 195 pounds when he pinned Justin Scarborough at the 5:05 mark of the match.

After that, Ashe reeled off five straight victories. Mitchell Brown was trailing on the scorecard, but it did not matter as he pinned Garrett Stokes with just over 30 seconds remaining in the match of 220-pounders. Jake Woods won an 8-3 decision over John Wooten at 285, Andrew Tedder pinned Jack McCormick at 3:51 in the 106-pound match, Jacob Weaver won via forfeit at 113 pounds and Carter Calhoun pinned fellow 120-pounder Jared Horton at 2:37.

The Rams won three of the final four matches. Cody Leonard beat Bodi Miller by a 6-5 decision at 126 pounds. Marco Fuentes won via forfeit at 132 and Tyler Albritton pinned Chase Conner at 4:19 in the 145-pound division.

Ashe’s final win against Starmount came at 138 where Matthew Hamilton returned to action after missing a few matches due to injury and defeated Austin Baucom by a 10-0 major decision.

In the final match, Ashe easily handled East Wilkes, beating the Cardinals 54-30.

120: Calhoun (Ashe) pinned Ryne Lentz (East) at 2:46.

126: B. Miller (Ashe) won via forfeit.

132: Zack Prevette (East) won via forfeit.

138: Derrick Woodie (East) pinned M. Hamilton (Ashe) at 5:08.

145: Elliott (Ashe) pinned Colby Cooper (East) at 1:37.

152: Jake Shore (East) pinned Conner (Ashe) in 48 seconds.

160: Cody Mathis (East) pinned J. Hamilton (Ashe) at 2:26.

170: L. Miller (Ashe) pinned Jesse Laws (East) at 1:12.

182: W. Miller (Ashe) won via forfeit.

195: Zack Faircloth (East) pinned Scarborough (Ashe) at 5:17.

220: Brown (Ashe) pinned Austin Bare (East) at 3:49.

285: Woods (Ashe) pinned Tony Gregory (East) at 3:23.

Overall, the Huskies are now 15-11 with two conference matches remaining. Ashe will travel to Alleghany on Friday and travel to Elkin on Tuesday.
