This month’s blood drive at the National Guard Armory in Jefferson was rapidly approaching its goal of 40 pints yesterday afternoon.
As of 2:45 on Thursday, Nov. 15, 38 donors had signed in with Red Cross Volunteers, Eula Blevins and Pat Hartman. One of the donors was Jim Taylor, who has donated over 25 gallons of blood over 50 years.
According to Red Cross Head Nurse Stephanie Smith, blood drives are held at the armory on the third Thursday of every month.
The Red Cross advises all blood types are needed to help maintain a sufficient blood supply, especially type O negative, a universal blood type.
Individuals who wish to donate blood should be at least 17 years of age, or 16 with parental permission, and meet weight and height requirements. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification, are required at check-in.
Those interesting in scheduling an appointment for an upcoming drive can contact Eula Blevins at (336) 982-2164. More information on donating blood is available by calling Ashley Gantt (336) 529-4918 or by email at ganttan@usa.redcross.org.
