Ashe County Schools (ACS) posted a job listing last Wednesday seeking to fill the superintendent position vacated by Dr. Travis Reeves earlier this month.
Reeves, who announced his resignation in December, now serves as superintendent for Surry County Schools. Interim Superintendent Donnie Johnson, who served as superintendent from 1999-2009, was hired to fill the position until the end of the 2012-13 school year.
Assistant Superintendent Phyllis Yates said the superintendent of schools vacancy has been posted on the Ashe County Schools Website effective Jan. 17, and will remain open until 5 p.m. Mar. 22.
“At that time the Board of Education will screen the applicants, and decide who they’re going to interview,” Yates said.
“Candidates must meet the legal requirements to serve as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education’s alternative guidelines. At a minimum, each applicant must have been a principal in a North Carolina public school or must have other leadership, management, and administrative experience,” according to the listing.
“An Ed.S degree is preferred. A successful candidate will be required to live within the boundaries of Ashe County and will begin employment on or about July 1, 2013,” the listing reads.
