The Huskies are still seeking that first home victory of the season after dropping back-to-back games against Forbush and Starmount to start the week.

Forbush got a tremendous effort on the mound from Mason Doub to hold Ashe to just a single hit while the Falcon bats came to life, beating the Huskies 11-0.

Ben Temple knocked in three runs, Neil Hutchens batted in a pair and Bryson Lee scored three runs to pace the Falcon offense.

Ashe’s loan hit came from senior pitcher Cameron Guyton.

Doub pitched all five innings and gave up one hit with three walks and six strikeouts in the winning effort.

Guyton took the loss after pitching four innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Ashe fared much better on Tuesday against Starmount, but a late scoring burst from the Rams gave them a 5-2 victory.

The Huskies scored first after a leadoff double from Alex Laws and a ground-out from Joe Richardson put Laws on third with one out. Senior catcher Carson Knight hit a hard grounder to shortstop that allowed Laws to come home from third.

Starmount was kept off the scoreboard until the fourth inning when Tanner Mathis blasted a long homerun to right field to tie the game up at 1-1.

The Rams came through with three big runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Sawyer Davis scored on a wild pitch, Zach Worley ripped an RBI double to left and Jeremy Whitaker added an RBI single during that scoring spurt.

Ashe got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Richardson walked, stole second base, and then scored on an error on a grounder by Knight.

Benjamin Combs had the answer for Starmount in the seventh inning with an RBI single to push the Ram lead back to three runs.

Mathis pitched the bottom of the seventh and retired a pair of Husky batters on strikes and got a line-out to first base to hold on for the save.

Blake Cheek earned the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Mathis pitched two innings and allowed one unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts for the save.

Richardson was the hard luck loser for Ashe. The junior pitched 6.1 innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. Matthew Hamilton got the final two outs of the game and did not allow any base-runners.

Laws and Hamilton picked up the two Ashe hits.

The Huskies fell to 3-8 overall and 3-8 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

The team will try to end its current four-game losing streak on Friday when East Wilkes makes the trip up the mountain.
