With just one game left in the regular season, the Lady Huskies are hoping to snag the third overall seed in the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament, but more importantly, the top seed among all 2A teams in the conference.

Finishing as the top seed would guarantee the Lady Huskies a playoff spot in the upcoming 2A state tournament.

Last week, Ashe earned a close win over Alleghany on Wednesday before falling on the road to conference-leading North Wilkes on Friday.

Paige Spell had another impressive double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help Ashe hold on for a 42-41 win over visiting Alleghany.

Senior Chelsea Reavis added nine points and point guard Morgan Hudler had eight points and two steals to make up the bulk of the scoring. Victoria Reed added two points, Hallie Brown had two points and Emily Flanagan added two points and four rebounds.

As a team, Ashe shot just 32-percent from the field, but played good enough defense to win the low-scoring game.

Mika Sprinkle led Alleghany with 18 points. Laken Blevins had eight and Molly Andrews chipped in six points.

On Friday, Ashe had to face off against the top team in the conference, North Wilkes. The Lady Vikings moved to 18-1 overall and remained undefeated in the MVAC with a 54-29 win over Ashe.

Jackie Denny led all scorers with 25 points and looks like the sure-fire pick for MVAC Player of the Year when the awards are handed out next week.

Hudler had 13 points for Ashe in the loss.

Ashe is now 12-10 overall and 10-5 in the MVAC with one game remaining in the regular season. The Lady Huskies will host West Wilkes on Friday night.

Wilkes Central is currently the second ranked 2A team in the conference, and fourth place overall with a 9-5 conference mark. The Lady Eagles will have a pair of tough games to finish the regular season. Central hosts North Wilkes on Tuesday and Forbush on Friday.
