The search for a new Ashe County Schools (ACS) superintendent continues, with the Board of Education narrowing its list of candidates. The board is scheduled to announce its decision in a little over three weeks.
Ashe County Schools posted a job listing mid-January seeking to fill the superintendent position vacated by Dr. Travis Reeves. The board received 47 complete applications, mostly from in-state applicants, said Assistant Superintendent Phyllis Yates.
So far, 18 applicants have been interviewed, and the board met Thursday to consider a narrowed field of three to five candidates, Yates said.
Final interviews are scheduled May 13-17, with contract discussions taking place May 20-31, she said.
The new ACS superintendent will be announced June 3, and will take office July 1, Yates said.
