The Jeffersons Rotary Club is receiving nominations for induction into the 2013 Ashe County Sports Hall of Fame through Feb. 1, 2013. This year’s Ceremony will be the sixth annual induction into the Ashe County Sports Hall of Fame, which was initiated in 2008. While the Sports Hall of Fame seeks to recognize and honor sports men and women in individual and team sports, the committee will seek to include representatives from not only the traditional ball sports of basketball, football, golf, but also hunting, game fishing, racing, and many others.
The annual induction ceremony is scheduled for the last weekend in April, and is planned to be held at Ashe County High School. Specific dates and details for the Induction Ceremony, dinner, and keynote speaker will be forthcoming.
Comprised of a committee of Rotarians and local community members, the committee seeks to recognize and perpetuate the noteworthy sportsman traditions of Ashe County by memorializing individuals and teams who have made extraordinary contributions to sports traditions in Ashe County.

Deadline for submission of nominating forms is February 1, 2013. Nomination forms are available for pick up and drop off at the following businesses: Ashe Chamber of Commerce, High Country Independent Insurance, Peoples Rexall Drug Store, and WKSK. They are also available online at the Jefferson Post and WKSK. Forms are also available from the following individual committee members: Mike Badger, Graham Caddell, Marc Payne, Scott Grubb, Hank Clay, Billy Smith, MaryAnne Moore, and Shane Simmons.
The Jeffersons Rotary Club, which meets every Thursday at noon at Jefferson Landing, is a part of Rotary International, which is the largest and oldest service organization in the world. The Sports Hall of Fame is presented as part of the “Community Service” aspect of service for the Jeffersons Rotary Club.
