Trinity guard David Newcomer poured in 30 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Huskies, 75-33.
Newcomer, who signed his Letter of Intent to play basketball at Lenoir-Rhyne, did most of his damage behind the three-point line, putting Ashe in a deep hole early on.
The Huskies trailed 41-23 at halftime, but it would be the third quarter that put Ashe away. Trinity outscored the Huskies 24-4 in the third, ending all hopes of an upset win for the 14th seeded Ashe squad.
Senior Eli Gambill was Ashe’s leading scorer with 12 points. Fellow senior Jordan Spell added seven points and four rebounds and Cullen Ashley scored four points and grabbed three rebounds.
Sophomore point guard Connor Bowers scored four points, Seth Sheets chipped in three points, Anderson Moore added two points and Matthew Lee hit a free throw.
Ashe finished the season with a 6-19 overall record.
Next year, the Huskies will have to replace four seniors off of this year’s squad. Moore, Gambill, Spell and Sheets all played their final game on Monday night.
Trinity moves on to face conference foe Randleman in the second round of state playoff action.
