Tennis seniors recognized in final home match
Seven Ashe County seniors were honored before their final home match of the season on Monday against Alleghany. Sam Bowers, Lucas Zeller, Een Shepherd, Jordan Spell, Jake Harrington, Travis Stanley and Lucas Hamm were the senior players on this year’s squad. Ashe County’s softball team lost a tough non-conference game on Monday to North Surry but bounced back to defeat North Wilkes on Tuesday. North Surry scored five in the sixth inning to turn a tie ballgame into a 7-2 victory. Bailey Culler drove in two runs and Hannah Goins added an RBI double to help North Surry get the win. Ashe County baseball picked up its fifth win of the season, beating North Wilkes at home, 7-3. Both teams started off the game by pitching out of first inning jams. North Wilkes loaded the bases in the top of the first, but Cameron Guyton got a big strikeout against Travis Parsons to end the threat.
