Body of missing ASU student found Saturday

Boone Police have confirmed that a body found in woods near the Appalachian State University campus on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 is that of missing student Anna M. Smith.Officers said the body was found around 10:30 a.m. in a wooded area off Poplar Grove Road, less than half a mile from ASU’s campus. Police were summoned to the scene by a nearby resident who reported a suspicious odor. Responding officers quickly discovered Smith’s body.A North Carolina driver’s license and an ASU student ID card belonging to Smith were found at the scene.Smith’s body was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for an autopsy.
