Golfers win first MVAC match

Ashe County easily beat the competition at the first Mountain Valley Athletic Conference golf match of the season last week at High Meadows Country Club.The Lady Huskies finished with a team score of 145, a full 25 shots ahead of second place Alleghany (170). Wilkes Central (173) placed third, followed by East Wilkes (175), Elkin (178) and North Wilkes (183).Sarah Hardin, Olivia Barr and Savannah Brooks swept the top three finishing spots. Hardin’s score of 44 was six shots ahead of Barr and seven shots ahead of Brooks. Elkin’s Palmer Duncan was fourth, firing a 52, and Kristen Carico and Jade Duncan tied for fifth, each shooting 54.Other Ashe scores included Madison Osborne shooting a 62 and Kaylee Campbell finishing with a 63.
