WEST JEFFERSON — Elkin’s tennis team remained undefeated on the year with a 9-0 victory against a young Ashe County squad.

“I am very proud of the way our team played against a much stronger team,” said Ashe County head coach Larry Dix. “This was great experience for us and will help us improve our game.”

Top seed Miracle Walters beat Keely Caddell, 6-1, 6-0.

Second seeded Mattie Timmerman defeated Morgan Church, 6-0, 6-1.

Ashe’s Caroline Current battled hard in her match with Ally Gentry, but lost the first set in a tiebreaker. Gentry easily won the second set, 6-0.

In the fourth seeded match, Morgan Randleman fought off Ashe’s Josie Cooper for a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Elkin’s Brianna Dreyer beat Callie Powell, 6-0, 6-1 and Kirstan Beaver completed the singles sweep over Anna Corley with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

In doubles action, Walters and Randleman were 8-1 winners over Caddell and Cooper. Timmerman and Emma Aldridge held on for an 8-5 win over Church and Current and the team of Dreyer and Beaver scored an 8-2 win over Powell and Kaylie Fernandez.

“I saw some good things our team was doing and felt we could have won a couple of the matches,” said Coach Dix, “We played hard and worked at keeping the ball in play.”

Next week, Ashe will travel to Wilkes Central on Tuesday and East Wilkes on Thursday.
