JV hoops roundup

WEST JEFFERSON — The JV boys team earned its 10th win of the season while the JV girls squad suffered a setback against Alleghany on Tuesday afternoon.

Ashe 61, Alleghany 37

The Huskies moved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference with an impressive home victory over Alleghany.

Alec Roland scored all 14 of his points in the first half to lead the Huskies. Jake Richardson scored 11 points, Brian Zheng scored eight points, Luke Hudler added seven, Branson Shepherd scored seven and Ethan Cox added six. Caleb Harless chipped in four points, Noah Vannoy and Corey Treva each added a basket.

Ryan Sturgill was the high scorer for the Trojans with 11 points.

Alleghany 37, Ashe 27

Leann Sessoms scored 12 points to lead Alleghany to a win over Ashe in the JV girls game.

Joanna Ruiz added eight points and Hannah Billings scored six.

For Ashe, Lora Jones was the high scorer with eight points. Lauren Eldreth added seven points, Brooklyn Sheets scored four, Emma Shepherd added four, Cori Richardson chipped in three points and Maddy Houck hit a free throw.

The Lady Huskies are now 3-8 overall.
