WEST JEFFERSON — The regular season slate of matches came to an end on Monday at Mountain Aire Golf Club.
Alleghany held off a strong charge from Wilkes Central to win the match by two strokes. The Trojans finished with a team total of 158 ahead of Wilkes Central’s 160.
Elkin placed third with a score of 172, Starmount was fourth with a score of 176 and North Wilkes finished fifth with a total of 177. West Wilkes (180), East Wilkes (182) and Ashe County (197) rounded out the finishing order.
“My guys continue to improve. We had our lowest team score of the season today at our home course,” said Ashe County head coach Laura Foster.
A pair of West Wilkes golfers tied for the best individual round. Andrew Cheek an Andrew Johnson each finished with a 34.
Kendall Wagner and Corey Carter both finished with a 48 to lead the Huskies. Ben Brooks shot a 50, Connor Jones finished with a 51 and Brad Colvard shot a 52.
“I would like to thank Philip Shepherd and the Mountain Aire Golf Club staff for their help at today’s match, and for everything they do all year long for our men’s and women’s golf teams,” said Foster. “Ashe County High School golf programs are very blessed to have such a supportive golf course staff.”
Next up for the Huskies and the rest of the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference will be the MVAC Tournament set for Tuesday, April 26 at Roaring Gap Country Club.
