BANNER ELK — For the second time in her track and field career, Lees-McRae junior Erin Bingham was named to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Southeast All-Region team.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the all-region teams on Wednesday.

Bingham, a former track star at Ashe County High School, won the outdoor championship in the 100-meter hurdles for the second time in as many seasons. Bingham’s time of 14.15 seconds qualified her for the national championship meet on May 26 in Bradenton, Florida.

She was one of four track athletes from Lees-McRae to make the all-region team. Senior Christian Lloyd won the men’s pole vault in both indoor and outdoor track this season. Junior Kayla Powell placed fourth in the women’s discus and sophomore Tyree Reed had a second place finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.58 seconds to earn his all-region spot.

To qualify to be an NCAA All-Region performer, an athlete had to place in the top five in an individual event or top three in a relay event. The same standards apply for cross country and indoor track.

This hurdles title was Bingham’s second one during her junior season. She took first place in the 60-meter hurdles at the Conference Carolinas indoor championship on Feb. 28. Bingham had the fastest time in the preliminary heat in 9.20 seconds and then matched that time with another 9.20-second performance in the final heat to win by just over three-tenths of a second.
