KERNERSVILLE — Ashe County had a pair of cross country runners make it to the 2A state championship meet coming up this weekend.
Tafton Baker and Mahaley Cronk performed well enough in the 2A Midwest Regional this past weekend at the Ivey M. Redmond Sports Complex to qualify, which is also the site of this weekend’s state championship meet.
Baker finished sixth out of 147 runners with a finishing time of 17:30.
Cronk has had an outstanding freshman season and she will have a chance to add on to her success after a fifth place finish in the regional, crossing the finish line in 21:11.
Ashe had several other runners competing in the regional event.
In the men’s race, Terek Ashley finished 36th overall in a time of 19:28. Jake Shepherd finished 44th and Riley Richardson finished 45th with less than a second separating the two Husky runners. David Roten was 64th overall in 20:22, Grady Rector placed 79th in 21:08 and Brandon Tedder was 137th overall in a time of 25:34.
For the women, Madison Warner was the next best Ashe runner taking 22nd place overall. The sophomore finished the race in 22:38. Zoe Schell was 35th overall in 23:43, Malorie Eller was 51st overall in 24:24, Olivia Randolph placed 62nd overall in 25:01 and Vanessa Guijosa was 87th overall in 27:47.
