BANNER ELK — Erin Bingham’s final season on the Lees-McRae track team got underway in December with the indoor team’s first meet of the season.
The Bobcats traveled to Winston-Salem for the JDL Kickoff Classic where Bingham, a former track standout at Ashe County High School, had the best finish of the day for the women’s team with a 12th place run in the 60-meter hurdles. Bingham finished the race in 9.19 seconds.
Bingham also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing that event in 28.65 seconds, 57th out of 74 runners.
The top two finishes of the day went to Kendall Isler with a seventh place finish in the men’s high jump and Joshua Cady with a seven place finish in the men’s pole vault.
Bingham and the rest of her Lees-McRae teammates will be back on the track this weekend for the ETSU Invitational in Johnson City on Friday and Saturday.
The indoor track season is relatively short compared to the outdoor season. The Bobcats will have a meet in Boone on Jan. 20-21 at the Appalachian State Invitational and one more regular season meet in Johnson City for the Buccaneer Invitational on Feb. 3-4. After that will be the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship on Feb. 19 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
