WEST JEFFERSON — The Lady Husky soccer team took on a pair of tough non-conference opponents on the road to start the season, falling short in both contests.

On Tuesday, Ashe traveled to Surry Central for the season opener. The Eagles held off Ashe for a 2-1 victory for their first win.

Ashe followed that up with a trip to Hibriten on Friday night.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with two goals from Allison Herrera and a goal from Patricia Summers.

Ashe broke through early in the second half with a goal from Hannah Tester to cut the deficit down to 3-1.

However, the Hibriten offense was just too much to handle. Phoebe Stanislaw scored a goal and then Herrera completed the hat trick, netting her third goal of the night.

Hibriten improved to 2-0 on the season while Ashe dropped to 0-2

The Lady Huskies are scheduled to travel to Avery County on Monday for their next game. Ashe will then host Watauga on Thursday for the team’s home opener.
