WEST JEFFERSON — Watauga picked up its second victory of the season over the Huskies with a 7-1 win on Monday afternoon.

All but one match was completed, a doubles match that Ashe was leading before the rain and snow became too much to play through.

In the battle of top seeds, Watauga’s Calvin Huelsman was an 8-1 winner over Jacob Key.

Jacob Woody got Watauga’s second win with an 8-4 win over Simon Houck in the second seeded match.

Third seeded Ethan Kanoy held off Devin Rupard for an 8-1 victory. In the fourth seeded match, Clay Burchell kept Watauga unbeaten with an 8-3 win over Corbin Coldiron.

Ashe broke through with a win in the fifth seeded match. Joseph Nguyen picked up a hard-fought 9-8 victory against Brooks Hastings.

The final singles match went Watauga’s way with Ben Stewart beating Juan Jaramillo, 8-2.

In the opening doubles match, Kanoy and Ryan Trate beat Key and Houck, 8-1. Burchell and Huelsman scored an 8-1 victory against Rupard and Colidron. Nguyen and Jaramillo were leading 4-0 over Silas Riordan and Trey Whitaker before the weather intervened.

The tennis team will get back on the court on Monday at Elkin. The match was originally supposed to be played on Tuesday, however the wintry weather forced the match to be moved.
