WEST JEFFERSON — This Saturday marks the official beginning of the fall sports practice period, and tennis head coach Larry Dix is looking for Lady Husky players interested in competing this season.
The first practice and tryout will start at 10 a.m. this Saturday and last until noon at the tennis courts at Ashe County High School.
You must have a current physical on file with the school to tryout.
The season opens with a pair of non-conference matches on Aug. 18 at Alexander Central and Aug. 20 at Watauga.
The first home match will also be the conference opener. The Lady Huskies will host East Wilkes on Aug. 25. Ashe travels to North Wilkes on Aug. 27 and will host Watauga on Aug. 31.
September begins with two road matches, first at West Wilkes (Sept. 1) and then at Alleghany (Sept. 3).
Ashe returns home on Sept. 8 to face Elkin and will then host Starmount on Sept. 10.
The first half of Mountain Valley Athletic Conference action ends on Sept. 15 at Wilkes Central.
Ashe will go to East Wilkes on Sept. 17 before having three straight home matches. North Wilkes comes to the High Country on Sept. 22, followed by visits from West Wilkes (Sept. 24) and Alleghany (Sept. 29).
The Lady Huskies will wrap up the regular season with road matches at Elkin (Oct. 1) and Starmount (Oct. 6) and host Wilkes Central on Oct. 8 in the finale.
The MVAC Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 13 in Elkin.
NCHSAA Individual Regionals will get underway on Oct. 23-24 before the state tournament starts on Oct. 30.
The NCHSAA Dual Team playoffs begin on Oct. 20 before ending in the state championship match on Nov. 7.
