WEST JEFFERSON — Future Ashe County Husky players got to show off some of their skills last Friday night as a part of the Midnight Madness celebration that marks the official beginning of the football season.

The group featured competitors from first grade through eighth grade in the first event of its kind hosted by the Ashe County High School Booster Club.

Two grades made up each of the four age groups with first/second, third/fourth, fifth/sixth and seventh/eighth graders battling it out against each other.

Each age group champion received a trophy, a Husky prize pack and will be introduced at halftime of a Husky football game later in the season. Each of the four winners were also entered into a drawing to win $100 or a Husky Athletic Season Pass.

Winners this year were:

First and second grade: Bradley Zadlo

Third and fourth grade: Bryce Peters

Fifth and sixth grade: Brodie Burgess

Seventh and eighth grade: Andrew Peterson
