WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County rallied from being two sets down to come back and defeat Wilkes Central by a 3-2 score last Wednesday.
Central took the first set, 25-22 and the second set, 30-28. With their backs against the wall, the Lady Husky players dug deep and won the next three sets to take the match. Set scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 15-12.
Rayna Blevins led the Lady Huskies with 16 kills. Mattie Joines added 14 kills while Cori Richardson and Bella Potter each had 11 kills. Emma Shepherd added five kills, Hailey Taylor had one and Lauren Robinson had one.
Richardson and Marley Eller did a nice job starting the offense with Richardson assisting on 22 points while Eller added 21 assists.
Ashe had just 13 service errors on 113 serves and seven aces, led by Eller with four, Joines with two and Blevins with one.
In the team’s previous contest, Ashe lost a 3-0 match to North Wilkes. The Vikings won with set scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-13.
Blevins and Joines finished with four kills apiece and Eller added five assists.
Ashe sits at 2-15 and 1-10 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
