GREENSBORO — The Ashe County cross country teams spent their Saturday at the Hagan Stone Classic running against some of the top runners in the region.
The event featured races for middle school athletes, high school and college athletes and had well over 50 schools and club teams in attendance.
Ashe County had five female runners enter the women’s championship run. Sophomore Mahaley Cronk had the best finish with a 25th place run in a time of 20:51. Zoe Schell’s time of 22:09 was good enough for 57th place, just a little over a second in front of teammates Olivia Randolph who finished 59th overall. Malorie Eller (74th) completed the race in 23:10 and Alexis Blevins (92nd) finished in 25:02.
On the men’s side, Ashe had eight runners in action. Tafton Baker won his race in a time of 16:47. Chandler Crawford was ninth, crossing the finish line in 18:17. David Roten (12th) finished in 18:35, Grady Rector (18th) finished his run in 18:47 and Josh Roten (67th) finished in 20:50. Neil Pate, Trent Blevins and Ethan Pennington competed in the junior varsity run. Pate’s time of 21:08 was good enough for 42nd overall. Blevins (52nd) completed the race in 21:27 and Pennington (71st) finished with a time of 22:25.
