WEST JEFFERSON — Two old rivals will take the field on Friday night with a lot on the line for both teams in this midseason clash.

For Wilkes Central, a win would mean the Eagles will stay atop the standings in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference. On the other side of the coin, a win for Ashe would keep the Huskies within a game of first place and go down as the biggest win of the season to this point.

The Eagles (5-3, 3-0) are coming off of a 69-26 victory over Elkin in a game that saw the Eagles dominate on the ground against a hapless Elkin defense.

Senior running back Tyler Boles ran for almost 250 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles piled up over 600 yards of total offense.

Boles will have some help on the ground from JoRaye Morrison and Evan Howell among others. Morrison added two touchdowns in the win over Elkin.

Through the air, the Eagles are led by Camden Wyatt. Last week, Wyatt needed just nine passes to tally 294 yards and four touchdowns.

Offensively, the Huskies have started to mix in more and more rushing plays and senior John Reavis has been there to deliver. Reavis ran for 152 yards at nearly six yards per carry in last week’s close loss to North Wilkes. The senior has played in four games this season and ran for 379 yards.

Kickoff from Wilkes Central High School will be at 7:30 p.m.
