Mountaineers capture third national title

For the third straight year in a row, Appalachian State’s football team was able to advance to the championship game of the NCAA Division I Championship FCS. This time, more than a National Championship was on the line, with the Mountaineers going for their third straight title, a feat that has never been accomplished in NCAA FCS (former Division I-AA) football.

The App’s faced the University of Delaware Blue Hens in the spotlighted event, and the Mountaineers marked their spot in the record books with a 49-21 triumph of the Blue Hens. The last Division I team to win three straight titles dates back to the mid-1940’s when Army won three straight titles in 1945,
