The Lady Huskies tennis team finished its season with four players chosen on the MVAC All-Conference team, as well as the conference player of the year. Courtney Bowers, Lizzie Hanes, Amanda Tugman, and Anna Wooten were all on the list, while Bowers also took home MVAC Player of the Year honors for her excellent play leading the Lady Huskies to the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A state playoffs, as well as reaching the state individual tournament semi-finals with doubles partner Hanes.
Glen Bailey and Josh Rees-Jones represented Ashe County on the men’s cross country all-conference. Joining them on the list were Chris Hayes, Daniel Jones, J.J. LaPlante, and Colby Shell all of West Wilkes, as well as Abram Logan from East Wilkes, Kyle Winters from Frobush, and Cauthli Lozado and MVAC Men’s Runner of the Year Zach Millsaps of Elkin. Honorable mention went to Zachary Andrews and Alec Faircloth of Forbush, Starmount’s Travis Norman, Moises Izquierdo of Wilkes Central and Timothy Nguyen from North Wilkes.
The Lady Huskies cross country team placed one runner on the MVAC All-Conference team. Sarah Spanbaur joined nine other athletes as being honored with a selection on to the team. East Wilkes led the way with five of the ten all-conference selections, including MVAC Women’s Runner of the Year and NCHSAA 1A state champion Carol Blankenship. Ashe also had Chelsea Eller selected as an honorable mention all-conference performer.
The ladies golf team from ACHS had one all-conference and two honorable mention performers receive recognition from the MVAC. Senior Katie Thore was chosen as an MVAC All-Conference athlete alongside MVAC Player of the Year Mary-Frances Hall of Elkin, Laura Burgess of Elkin, Ellen Laws from Wilkes Central, Jensen Pendry from Forbush, and Annika Winebarger of Elkin. Madison Little and Taylor Price represented the Lady Huskies on the honorable mention list with Anna Dewitt of Forbush and Erin Steiner of Elkin.
Ashe did not receive any all-conference selections in volleyball, but did have three who were chosen as honorable mention. Senior Callie Barker, Chandler Christensen, and Mallary Clay were all named to the honorable mention list. MVAC Player of the Year went to Laura Cantrell of West Wilkes.
The men’s soccer team had four players make the MVAC All-Conference team and one just miss the honorable mention list. Jose Zapata, Andrew Lopp, Luc Delobel, and Tyler Keagy all were chosen as all-conference performers. Zapata also finished 10th overall in MVAC Player of the Year voting, which went to Nate Benfield of Starmount. Delobel finished 11th, Lopp 19th, and Keagy 22nd in player of the year voting as well. Junior Kendrick Leaper just missed out on being chosen as an honorable mention performer.
