Two arrested for drug violations

Two Ashe County residents were arrested last month on drug charges.

According to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Department and Lt. Det. Grady Price, Melissa Dawn Rash, 31, of West Jefferson, was arrested on Dec. 21, 2010. She is charged with 11 counts of trafficking in opium, one count of selling schedule IV controlled substance, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver schedule IV controlled substance.

Rash was placed in custody at Ashe County Law Enforcement Center on a $200,000 secured bond. She was also charged with a probation violation which has a bond of $500.

Charging officer is Lt. Det. Grady Price. The arrest stemmed from a three-month undercover operation.

On Dec. 28, 2010, in a separate incident, Harold Dean Gilley, 55, of Warrensville was arrested and charged with 12 counts of trafficking in opium. He was released from Ashe County LEC on a $50,000 bond.

Charging officer in the Gilley case is Det. Jeremy Williams. The arrest stemmed from a four-month undercover operation.

The controlled substances in these arrests included hydrocodone, oxycodone and alprazolam, an ingredient in Xanax.
